You are not what you have
When we look for our identity we have to look further than our possessions. We are more than the worth of our new iPhone or a new car. If we put our self-worth in our possessions we are putting it on something that won’t last forever. Stuff fades away and loses value in time but your life and your identity are priceless.
Don’t ever put your value on that of pleasure and possessions. This kind of stuff only brings you momentary satisfaction and when that moment is gone we are left empty. That is why I believe people in this day and age crave the stuff. We all want the newest gizmos and gadgets. We don’t want to be empty so we fill that void with stuff to try to create an identity for ourselves.
You can say your Identity is being a parent or a spouse or maybe you find your identity in your Job but is that everlasting? What happens if you lose your Job or God forbid your family? Do you lose your identity there? Do you lose your self-worth?
Your true Identity comes when you realize you are a child of God and that is something no one can ever take away. When everything else fades away God is the only one who remains.
You are not what you’ve done
Being a child of God or a Christian has nothing to do with your activity but everything to do with the promise that you have been adopted to be part of the kingdom of God. What you have to understand is that your actions do not define you. When you have done something wrong God does not disown you, He wants to help you fix what you’ve wronged.
If you are a parent do you stop loving your kids when they make a mistake? Or would you rather them come to you for help when something has gone wrong in their life so that you could help them?
That is all that God our Father wants from us. He wants us to humble before Him and admit that we have done something wrong so that He can help us overcome our mistakes.
So who are you?
You are loved!
You are cherished!
You are a warrior!
You are an overcomer!
You are a child of God!
Your true identity is only found in Christ!
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has gone, the new has come.” 2 Cor. 5:17
