Forming A Relationship With God
I have been very lucky in my walk with God because I have been able to hear Him talk to me. I have open my heart and let Him take control of my life. I am a firm believer that in order for God to work in your life, you have to let Him into your soul. Our sole purpose as Christians is to understand that forming a relationship with God is the only way to discovering our true purpose and happiness. He wants to be your best friend will you let Him in?
In those late nights when you need somebody to talk to, and no one is around but you just need to vent, Talk to God. When you are happy, talk to God. No matter what you have in your heart, you have to talk to God. You have to take the first step towards forming that relationship with God.
Before I started walking with God I struggled with depression. That was one of the hardest times in my life. I remember I would lock myself in the bathroom, turn on the shower, play some tunes on my phone, And begin bawling my eyes out. I was in such a dark place that half of the time I didn’t even know what I was crying about. I didn’t know what was causing my pain, but I just remember feeling that my life had no purpose.
It was in those moments of despair that I began to form a relationship with God. The one thing that I would say helped the most in having such a strong relationship with Christ, believe it or not, was that I had been an Atheist for most of my life. I know you must think it’s crazy that I even said that, but it’s true. When I first started talking to God I didn’t know the first thing about religion. I had never read the Bible and knew nothing about being a Christian. All I knew was that I was in pain, And needed someone to talk to.
I truly felt His presence when I started to tell Him my struggles. I continued my shower ritual because I started enjoying that quiet, alone time with God. I was able to tell Him my troubles as they were happening which was a huge relief because this meant that I wasn’t bottling them up inside. Eventually, my depression was gone. He healed my pain and showed me that He is always with me.
So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time, he will lift you up in honor. 7 Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you. 1 Peter 5:6-7
If you think that because He already knows everything you don’t have to tell Him anything about your life, you are wrong. Yes, He already knows, but He wants to hear it from you. He wants to know your heart. He wants to form a bond with you, not for His sake but for yours. He wants you to know that He is always there as a shoulder for you to cry on. He will always listen to what you have to say and He will never judge you, just love you.
What most of us don’t understand is that God wants a relationship with us. It’s up to us to form a relationship with God. We could read the whole Bible, cover to cover, and miss the whole point. God doesn’t want us to memorize a whole bunch of scripture and pretend that our lives are perfect. He doesn’t want us to hide behind a mask and pretend we’re someone else before Him. What He does want is for us to be vulnerable and be able to confide in Him. He wants us to be able to come to Him in our time of trouble, in our time of need, and be able to Humble ourselves before Him. We have to remember that we are more than just a person walking aimlessly in this world but rather that we are His sons and daughters.
